Sorry it's a bit last minute, but everyone will have spotted this anyway I am sure; - in this scenario the sharp pains would suggest median nerve damage or CTS, so Tinel's sign and Faber's Test should be carried out.

yep he wnt be able to drive, a severe sprain causes stiffness and swelling within hours and complete loss of function.Dorsiflexion,plantarflexion,inversion and eversion are very limited.passive mvts on eversion and inversion should not be doneor any resistive mvts due to pain and freshness of injury.inersion and palntarflexion aggravate the condition.
